Crime is a societal problem that must be addressed. Crime can generate higher costs for products, taxes, and insurance premiums. Crime can also create insecurity and fear in a community. People who live or work in “high crime” areas can be deprived of life’s normal opportunities and pleasures. Individual victims of crime can suffer injury (physical and emotional) and financial loss.
All crime cannot be eliminated, but a systematic and collaborative approach to prevention can significantly reduce crime. Reductions in crime can reduce fear and ultimately improve the quality of life for community members. This lesson provides introductory concepts for preventing crime.
