Words are powerful. Words have meaning. However, while Data Analytics has grown tremendously in the age of Big Data due to the sheer amount of quantitative data available a growing area of inquiry is in Unstructured Data – the data that doesn’t live in a database and can’t be turned into a data structure.

Additionally, Forensic Linguistics has grown as a discipline of study and techniques have grown that have applicability for a broad range of crimes including fraud and financial crimes to violent crimes.

This course will present techniques from both Text Analytics – the analytical study of unstructured data typically associated with text – and Forensic Linguistics that are useful and available tools for investigators, detectives, and investigative personnel. This course will add another tool to the investigative toolbox that can be used to resolve crime, build leads, and further the course of an investigation.
