I began my law enforcement career in 1978 as a rookie Police Officer with Covert Twp. PD. It was a small rural department that had a jurisdictional responsibility of 35 sq. miles. It’s western border nestled against Lake Michigan and the population jump from about 800 residents in the winter, to several thousand in the summer. My investigative experience was jump started right off the get-go because the department did not have a detective per se; whoever caught a call had to determine if it require any follow-up investigation and if so had to investigate it. Hence, the fire was lit in me.

This led me from Police Officer to Police Chief to U.S. Border Patrol Agent and finally Lead Investigator in the private sector. During my career I tried to focus on keeping my training and skill current with any continuing education that I had time for or could afford. I put myself through the Medico-legal Death Investigator Training at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 1998, The Online DITAcademy in 2017 and finally the Death Investigator Certification Exam in 2018.
